1804 Historic House

Williamstown, MA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

This Colonial was originally built in 1804 and added onto several times over the years. The owners started by having us install a new roof, waterproof the basement, and paint the exterior a beautiful and period-perfect navy. A few years later we gutted the whole house to add insulation and reframe floors in many areas. We removed the wall between the existing kitchen and dining room (adding 2 18” LVLs) to create the beautiful new open concept kitchen dining area. We added lots of structural support in the basement to support the new 10’ island with a single slab quartzite countertop. What was once an exterior porch and later a laundry/storage room was converted to a new prep kitchen and half bath. We added a new built-in desk in the study and converted the wood fireplace to gas. The second floor was completely reconfigured. We added a walk-in closet and primary bathroom off the primary bedroom and a new hallway (with storage closet) leading to the new full bath and laundry room. The remaining two bedrooms got new closets, flooring, insulation, and sheetrock. We drew attention to the balcony sitting room off the primary with the new custom wainscoting in the stairwell and balcony. The owners love their new primary all-marble bath with cozy heated floors, bathtub big enough for 2, and body jets in the shower. Β
